Mt. Dept of Fish, Wildlife and Parks will be adding a new electroshocking study stretch on the Upper Madison River this Sept. The new stretch is from English George Ck. to Ruby Ck. boat ramp., a distance of about 6.5 miles. English George Ck. flows into the Madison across and downstream from the Palisades boat ramp. It is sometimes called “The Hole in the Wall.” No word yet if this will be a permanent add to the rota that includes Pine Butte and Varney, but I hope so. I am curious to see what the trout population is in this stretch. It fills a much needed gap in the data that has been unknown and only guessed at by fishing guides and anglers. Basically, we have no hard trout population data from Lyons Bridge to Varney Bridge, a distance of some 28 miles.

The electroshocking schedule is as follows:
9/16 – 9/18 Mark
9/29 – 10/1 Recapture
Kudos to FWP for this!
