Despite low flows in YNP and Hoot Owl on the Lower Maddy, it was great to see plenty of water in the Varney stretch. 1160cfs is a nice level and the fish seemed to enjoy it. I saw a report that said flows from the Madison in YNP into Hebgen Lake are the lowest in 31 years! And a Hoot Owl restriction has been put into effect in that section. But we managed to hook some nice ones including this fine Madison River brown trout. Kudos to Northwestern Energy and the folks at Hebgen Dam for managing a dicey situation.
